I think the general opinion is that if this had been two white brothers that broke in on a black owned townhouse and the crime was exactly the same it would be all over the media, there would be anti-hate protest marches and the white brothers would be tried for hate crimes. I do believe in equal opportunity evil sprees tho.

Not all black on white crime is racist, but I remember vividly all the murders of Asian and white storeowners and clerks in Philly and I GUARANTEE YOU there was a racial hatred element.

Yes it does! Hours of rape and torture are a prima facie indication of hatred. The robbery part would have taken one trip to the ATM with everyone's card. This type of gratitous degradation of the victims was exactly why the Shepard case a few years ago was prosecuted as a hate crime.

FYI one of the five triggers for a Fed. hate crime investigation is the use of excessive force in the committing of a crime. I think this case fits the bill.

As I recall from earlier stories, after raping the surviving victim, one of the guys asked her if she's ever been with a black man before, or something along those lines.
