Re "losing money for his district": you can live in never-never land for as long as you want. But the way the world works as we speak, is that US reps have to work their butts off just to get their constituents' tax money back home to their districts. It's sick, it's sad. And a revolution might be called for, but that's how it is in the real world. Ron Paul, for all of his silly pseudo-idealism knows this. Unfortunately, because Dr.Paul wants to play the US "preacherman" it's the folks in Freeport who have to pay for it by watching their hard-earned taxes go up to pay for Tom Daschle's neighbors' bikepaths. And that's just the sad truth.

Yes, I understand the "if we don't get our share of the government dole, somebody else will" mentality. It is probably even pragmatic. However, this is why we never get real change. People, even conservative people don't want to get rid of those creating the situation that requires their money to be confiscated through high taxes. It is alway's somebody else's bastard at fault. Never our own.

It is almost a MAD situation, except we aren't fighting with nukes, but each other's wallet share.

Or maybe...just maybe the folks in freeport don't want the federal government coming down into their homes with strings-attached bike path money and every other project imaginable under the sun. I know I certainly wouldn't.
