Scoped 30-06.
Isn't it against the law to buy a gun for a 3rd party?
Sure is. "If you're not one of us, you're 'little people'".
Hmmm? Let's see what Sarah Brady's kid has been up to for the past 2 weeks...
I don't know, maybe petitioning some court for a new last name?
I wouldn't fret over it. I heard that she bought him a couple boxes of Remington Accelerators to go with it. Noted Ms Brady..."those little 22 bullets won't hurt anything".
***Foot Note: The Remington Accelerators for the 30-06 fire a .223 projectile encased in a 30 cal sabot. Velocity is a modest 4000 fps. Other than the sabot, no rifling marks on the projectile.
Actually, no. It's still legal (federal) to buy a gift gun for a qualified person. It would be illegal to buy the gun for someone who is not allowed to own a gun; or to act as an agent in the purchase of the gun to have the real purchaser remain anonymous.
According to Sarah, a Remington 30.06 with scope. I'd take it over a .223 for serious hunting.
