"Chairman Leahy assured me on numerous occasions that Judge Shedd would be given a vote. I took him at his word," Thurmond said. At his age he should know better.

Indeed! Two months shy of his 100th birthday. Very frail. But still has the gumption of a young lion. Throughout most of Strom's tenure, the senate did operate on something of an honor system. A senator's word was his or her bond, and a degree of civility was expected even during the toughest partisan squabbles. Unfortunately, as the Dem party became ever more populated by radical Leftists, any concept of honor has drained away from them to be replaced by the most despicable, vicious ideologically driven partisanship. But, by blindly withholding one last legislative victory from the old man, they have unwittingly opened the way for one of his finest hours.

I wish Zell Miller would switch over to the Republican party as an expression of support and outrage over his Democrat party's ruthlessness and dishonor. This would be nice, but the power to end this obstruction of Bush administration judicial appointments lies with the Republicans! VP Cheney should exersize his constitutional right as leader of the senate and force full senate votes on all nominees that have been bottled up in or rejected by the DimoRat dominated Judicial Committee. Basiclly, he can (and should) assume the power that has been unofficially ceded to the semate majority leader -- tell Dachle to assume a sitting position on the bench.

Hollings is pure good old boy - surely corrupt in many ways - but there is honor among good old boys and the Old School in the Senate. Leahy and the Clintonista types are not even up to that standard.

You hit it on the head. Strom expects his colleagues to be "gentlemen" and to have "gentlemanly disagreements". One can hardly blame him for *wanting* that, but he probably has never realized - or wanted to believe - what kind of vermin have infested the Demoncratic Party.
I would like to believe, as someone else here speculated, that the Demoncrats will be very, very sorry if Strom really realizes what's happened - from his keyboard, to God's eyes...
Strom jumped at Normandy, didn't he?

I believe SC will put Lindsey Graham in Strom's place on election day. Republicans are a shoo-in as long as they don't try to fight the lottery and rebel-flag.

I'm not sure we should get caught up in this kind of activity. I think it's lowering ourselves to their level.
I'd also not like to hazard FR in any way.
Certainly I have no sympathy for their ugly, insane politics. But we would do better to "be wise as serpents and harmless as doves."
There must be more clever, less vengeful ways to get the point across. Maybe not so easy.
IMHO.

One of many many reasons why we need to take control of the US Senate. We must stop the D's from filling our Federal Courts with out of touch Liberal judges!

"Or maybe...just maybe the folks in freeport don't want the federal government coming down into their homes with strings-attached bike path money and every other project imaginable under the sun. I know I certainly wouldn't." Or maybe, just maybe, the folks in Freeport are damned sick and tired about seeing all of their federal tax money appropriated to California. That's THEIR damned hard-earned money, and their own representative Dr. Paul seems to be only too happy to see it "redistributed" to Oakland, California. Why shouldn't they be mad?
