I've had a CCL in Texas for 8 years, but I don't gas up my car with my Sig in my right hand!

But under the circumstances now existing in the DC area, it might not be such a bad idea. Better yet, somebody riding "Shotgun" with you, literally, or almost, I'd have them armed with a rifle.

There is no viable defense to a sniper except staying indoors with the curtains drawn.

Now I am all for CCW, and someone who is "carrying" may nail the sniper in his lair or leaving it, but someone standing near the victim will never see the sniper or get an effective shot off at him.
