I think the longer it takes them to come out with a basic statement, the more we can assume it's not going to be a simple 'move along folks, nothing to see here.'
I think murder by fire arm, in a public area will not be that popular in the area by people other than this suspect.
If you want to kill somebody, and you are in the area, now is not the time to go shoot them at a gas station with the LE at full alert. I would say chances are very strong that this is the guy.
