It is amazing how the US has been prone to errors in judging Pakistan where its own national interests are concerned. Pakistan broke all the embargos under which military equipment had been supplied to it by the US before 1965. It cheated the US on its nuclear and missile relationships with China and North Korea. Its nuclear development programme was in direct defiance of US concerns and was carried out in circumstances of deceit, deception and dissimulation of which the US was a victim.

Let us hope that after Iraq, we clean up the mess in Pakistan and make sure that the nuclear weapons do not fall in the hands of Osama or his successors. Today we have the rulers of our choice but can anyone guarantee that it will not change for the worse? What will happen if the Islamist extremists take over the country in a coup....

In the latest issue of National Review (10/14/02) Paul Johnson the eminent historian in an article titled "Leviathan to the Rescue" also agrees with the author Varma: "Indeed the only long term solution, desirable in itself, is the reunification of the Indian subcontinent, which ought to be an object of Western policy"

"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed - and hence clamorous to be led to safety - by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary." - H. L. Mencken

The above quote must be the reason Pakistan is developing missles which takes a lot of money they don't have. Looking at pics of Pakistan you would think theres other places these funds could go.
(rant)
I'm so glad the U.S. is not a candidate for the above quote. We're immune to this sort of thing. Its true that other Socialist countrys (than the U.S.) like England, France, Germany, China could be subject to this negative quote but we here in the U.S. haveing a two party system are proctected from this. It gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside. After all we have a checks and balanced system of goverment. And Ann Colters quote, "20% are conservatives, 20% liberals, and 60% morons", about the voting public just makes me want to cry. How could she be so pessimistic?.

If Coulters correct that would mean 80% of the voting public are MORONS, and we're being manipulated by a shadow gov't accourding to Mencken..

If the movie the MATRIX is'nt a political primer, then I've fallen into a parallel reality. It's to the point, if I found out I'm merely paranoid, I'd say THANK GOD. If, Al Gore can garner @50% of the vote.... come on, you've got to say to say to yourself, industrial strengh voter fraud OR Theres big trouble in River City and its spelled with a "S" and ends with a "G" and that my friends spells Shadow Goverment, to fool the unwashed masses in such numbers..
OR- basically Americans really just don't give a damn..in mass.

As to Pakistan.... so their a little paranoid, but I can understand paranoia a little better now..
(/rant)....jeese
