"Dear policemen" Sounds like something a foreigner might say. Born Americans would more likely say "Police" or "Cops".

They also refer to them as "pigs", and "the fuzz".

Many years ago when I lived in Rockville (Montgomery county) we called them "Ben", a shortend form of the "Guardez Bien" emblem on the side of their police cars.
