From Mirriam-Webster Online:

Main Entry: sar·don·ic
Pronunciation: sär-'dä-nik
Function: adjective
Etymology: French sardonique, from Greek sardonios Date: 1638
: disdainfully or skeptically humorous : derisively mocking [a sardonic comment] [his sardonic expression]

Perhaps the concept is a little hard for you to grasp, but I stressed that my comment was sardonically black in mood. I do not wish that Leahy had been murdered. However, I used the literary device of dark, mocking humor to make the point that despite being personally touched by terrorism, Leahy insists on remaining viciously partisan in a time of great danger for this nation.

the concept is not at all hard to grasp, you're just really bad at it.
