"The firing pin indentation..."

If this guy is half as smart as he seems to be, then he will have a couple of spare firing pins with him as both backup, and to change out so the indentations won't match. He can also run a stainless brush down the barrel and change the ballistic imprint somewhat. For that matter, if the weapon is an AR-15 or an FN, he can just change the barrel out.

When the cops tell us they found brass related to this shooter, they insult our intelligence. Or this guy is really a phsycopath and doesn't care if he's caught.(but I doubt that)

If you live in the DC area and posess any ammo of this caliber, you had better count your rounds. BTW, we have been training our troops for quite some time now on urban warfare and urban action. JFWIW.

Or if he was smart he could just leave a piece of brass he picked up at a firing range. There is plenty of fired brass at any range and this would go a long way to throwing anyone off the trail. Firing pin indentations are not the most reliable means of identifying a gun. Firing pins can be changed barrels and chambers can be changed. A shooter who is mart enough to elude police would be smart enough to have "customized his rifle." Further normal wear and tear can change the ballistic fingerprint so that it is no longer a match for subsequent firings thus making this database worse than useless except as a national gun registry for confiscation.
