What if the rapist gets a hold of your gun? If you shoot first that won't happen. But in your case, you dimwitted bubble head, you might as well hand it over to him.

"The police are here to protect. That is what people should rely on." Yeah, riiight. The police get there just in time to take pictures, & tape off the area. They are (in almost all circumstances) a reactionary force. Very rarely do they stop a crime BEFORE it occurs. I guess we should all get rid of the fire extinquishers in the kitchen, too? After all, with this guys mentality we should rely on the Fire Dept.

"I am not in favor of people walking around with a concealed weapon," Michalec said. "The police are here to protect. That is what people should rely on."
Tell that to the people that have been raped.

"The idea of having a gun seems absurd," said Lisa Szuter, a junior
in education. The bottom of the academic barrel. And she will be spooning worse to children in a few years at taxpayer expense.

Soooo... if you or a loved one was being raped or assaulted, and I happen to be nearby with a concealed pistol, you would rather I ran to the phone to call the police, and leave the pistol in the holster?

People have a Natural Right to protect themselves. The 2nd Amendment merely instructs the government not to interfere. The 2nd Amendment gives no one any rights.
I bring this up only because we need to be clear about our rights, if we start thinking the government gives us our rights the government can then take them away.

...residents should rely on the police for protection. When the rapist is stalking you between unlit building, when you reach into your purse, would you rather feel a cell phone or a gun?

She is an education major. No need for critical thinking skills if you are going to teach in the publick skules.

they are using the university to promote their own agenda. Unlike the socialists, the gay/lesbian caucuses, the race pimps, the "anti-war" protesters, etc., who would never use the university to promote their own agenda.

Promoting their own agenda?
University Police have been instructed to take them down if noticed, and to continue urging other means of protection
Looks like the police are promoting the statist agenda, and destroying free speech in the process. But then again, if students aren't to have any Second Amendment rights, why not crush their First Amendment rights too?

He also said the university has a strict rule prohibiting the possession of firearms on campus, and that residents should rely on the police for protection.
"I am not in favor of people walking around with a concealed weapon," Michalec said. "The police are here to protect. That is what people should rely on." Chief Michalec, does that mean that you are legally liable, and can be successfully sued for damages if I am raped, and you fail to provide police protection?

"The idea of having a gun seems absurd," said Lisa Szuter, a junior in education. "What if the rapist gets a hold of your gun? He could end up shooting you. I think carrying pepper spray is a better solution than carrying a device as potentially deadly as a gun." Liza Szuter, future NEA teacher, has got her act together. She would make for a fine teacher for your child to indoctrinate them on the finer points of victimhood.
