One of the very few facts we do know about this case is that a .224 bullet was used. That's the bullet used in eleven different cartridges. Until an empty case is found we won't know which cartridge was used.

Until an empty case is found we won't know which cartridge was used. My understanding is that a .223 case (5.56x45) was found at the site of one of the first round of shootings in Rockville. Now, did that come from the perp's rifle, or was it a red herring?

Your right. The 22mag rimfire also uses a .224 diameter bullet, unlike the standard .22 rimfire which uses a .223 dia.
