LOL!! I had forgotten about this. Only for the peasants, of course. (The Lords wear body armor all the time.)

Most body armor won't stand up to .223/5.56mm anyway. Take a pretty heavy trama plate to stop any centerfire rifle round.

However that has go to be one of the dumbest laws ever.
