From what is posted I can't even understand why they have associated him with this in any way.

Maybe they have some info which is not being given out, but just being a white guy who is missing doesn't mean anything. Oh yes he is one of those evil "associated with various militia etc. groups guys" better shoot on sight.

Unless maybe he was the hookup for the firearms used, or the vehicles maybe.

I wonder if it will quietly emerge that they've been looking for a missing individual who has spent the last week in jail somewhere? That won't look too good....

Maybe if they'd mentioned the nature of the crime underlying the "fugitive warrant" he was arrested on in 1993, we'd be in a better position to judge.
