I believe that it was Fox News who, tonight, said that all of these Portland guys were Blacks who had converted to Islam.
Does anyone believe that this isn't rampant in the U.S.? Especially in our prisons? I'll bet there is more Al Qaeda recruiting in our prisons than in the whole rest of the world.

PORTLAND, Oregon (AP) -- Portland police have refused a U.S. Justice Department request for help in interviewing Middle Eastern immigrants as part of its sweeping terrorism investigation, saying it would violate state law.
Attorney General John Ashcroft (who swore he was opposed to racial profiling during his confirmation hearings) has ordered that 5000 non-citizen men of middle eastern descent, aged 18-33, be rounded up for questioning nationwide, even though none are alleged to have broken any laws. The FBI is attempting to accomplish this by asking local law enforcement agencies to do its dirty work.

Although initially Police Chief Kroeker took the heat for the decision, the refusal to conduct the investigation had Mayor Katz's fingerprints all over it. Even after Oregon's Attorney General Hardy Myers and Multnomah
County District Attorney Mike Shrunk concluded that the Portland City Attorney was wrong, and that police questioning of foreigners would not violate Oregon law, despite a tidal wave of public criticism of the city's decision, Mayor Katz refused to back down. In an editorial, even The Oregonian disagreed with Katz and Rogers. In political terms, it is apparent from her refusal to rethink her position, that the Mayor is unfamiliar with the concept "Cut your losses."

But when he congratulated everyone involved with making today's arrests they left a couple of people out; two folks you could call the real heroes in this case.
Irma and Jack Collins live directly above the gravel pit where these alleged terrorists were practicing with weapons.
Ashcroft didn't "congratulate" them because he probably didn't want to make them targets for co-jihadists. The media is an ass.

I would not investigate alone. And, I would definately keep my distance. If these people were up to no good, and doing the same thing that the terrorists were doing, they would be mighty stupid to do it again. Of course, some of these folks are one french fry short of a Happy Meal...

Kroeker is a good man. He had to go along, and I'm sure he rues the day he accepted this job.
