Another DC-area sniper-style shooting
Wife (FReeper nina0113) | October 4, 2002 | Steve0113

Posted on 10/04/2002 12:02:50 PM PDT by Steve0113

Another broad-daylight shooting just occurred, this time in Fredericksburg, VA, just off I-95. It's not even on the news yet.

About an hour's drive south of where the Montgomery County shootings happened, a woman was shot in the parking lot of a Michaels fabric store. My wife was in the store at the time. The victim had left the store and carried her purchases to her minivan. She unlocked the minivan and was loading her stuff into it when she was shot. No sign of the shooter.

No one else was injured.

The woman was taken away in an ambulance, condition unknown. Her license plate (which I'm not going to post) indicated that she had several children.

no. TV is right to have profilers on, this is a serial killer and so by def'n this crime is not "normal"

Serial killers have a pattern. All blonde, all men, all one race, people they knew, revenge. This is NOT a serial killer. This is terrorism.

Wouldn't this provide a good camouflage in plain sight, elevated blind?

http://www.isuzucv.com/accessories/airdeflector.html

All the better to shoot across 5 or 6 lanes of traffic, and hit standing targets, vacuuming their vehicles filling their gas tanks, loading their cars with packages? Or park on a frontage road in front of a shopping mall... take one shot and then drive off, as everyone inside the parking lot is looking around for someone with a gun or a rifle. And all without having to modify the body of the truck in a manner that would raise suspicion.

Good thing he's only a SERIAL killer and can't kill in parallel or (worse) multitasking modes.

Hope there's a VERY parallel manhunt for this bastard.

What is the definition of a serial killer? What is the first thing to confirm a serial killing. The victims fit a PATTERN.

Terrorism doesn't need a pattern, it is done to create fear.

A serial killer is a killer that kills serially. Of course, I would defer to your superior knowledge of prosecutions and homicide, since I assume that you have had much more experience in this are than me, as is obvious from your brilliant deduction that someone who kills serially may not be a serial killer. </sarcasm> Don't quit your day job.

Or maybe assign him some tasks so as to make him an asset rather than a liability.

LOL! Poohbah, I live in this area and I can assure there's an extraodinary parallel manhut. Of course, the DC police tend to hunt in a self-destructively recursive manner, as we learned in the Levy case: they may be coded in LISP.

But the rest of the area police are all good. And actually DC homicide ain't bad. My boyfriend said as he commuted in and out of the city today, there were cops all over the road everywhere. Good for them.

Just a wee bit of humor to brighten an otherwise dark day.

Like I said, hopefully the guy's source code will read as follows

GOTO HELL
END

I asked: Which begs the question... FBI involved because????

Throughout the day the manhunt intensified, but as night fell there had been no arrests. Though authorities have downplayed the possibility of terrorism, the FBI, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and Secret Service have all been involved in the investigation.
FBI: Maryland shootings fit no category

And by staying on FR tonight, I may have gotten an answer.

I thought terrorism was a lot more likely to have a pattern? The attacks on Israel and India aren't random, the same type of targets are chosen again and again.

This is terrorism.

Good possiblity and the officials involved have not ruled it out (officially, of coarse).

To say this shooting is not related to yesterdays cuz another gun was used and she wasn't killed sounds absurd. They missed the night before last at Michaels and why can't they have more than one gun? More than one vehicle?

A man was found dead in the DC area. The body was in a bathtub filled with cornflakes and milk, and had a bannana insetred in his bottom.

Police suspect a cereal killer...

LOL!! "Just a wee bit of humor to brighten an otherwise dark day." Thanks. We needed that. Now, if you're a smart programmer, can you explain this to me:

How come I can play speed chess really well on the internet tonight, displaying fantastic speed and intuition etc., yet I can't persuade ET in this thread that this person who killed 5 people all in one day qualifies as a "serial killer"? Why IS it that this Thing keeps following me around on this thread contesting this point? Could it be: life is *much* more complicated than chess?

As to the guy, and I guess we all kinda assume it is one, my boyfriend *insists* it's racial even though some of the victims are white. I am *totally* confused by everyone's reaction to this one. I do agree with the worrisome point: what if it's terrorism? Yikes.
