One day, when I have the extra funds (money is so tight right now in our household I can't afford to squeeze two pennies together) I plan on getting a membership to Lexus/Nexus to do just this.

Maybe if someone on the board has the service, they can look it up.

I would say that Al Gore got a whole damn lot of votes even though he is the most gigantic wimp

Sure he got the traitors and fools votes but above that 29% how many of the rest were from real live American voters? Dead, illegal and other fraudulent votes don't count.

The dems were mainly upset at the 2000 election because they failed to account for President Bush's real appeal and manufactured too few votes to win. That's why we saw the frantic attempts to fraudulate (?) more votes in floriduh

The media will demonize whoever takes the lead on this on this, whether it's John Ashcroft, Bill Frist, or whoever. Remember Katherine Harris?

it would likely be spun by the Dems as the ruling of a "sympathetic court".

Yes, that's how low I think the Dems are!!

Yes but we'll have two years to pack the courts and pray for the return to their maker of the evil ones on the supreme court. We can do a lot in 2 years.

Additionally who cares what the dems are whining about this time. We are in the right and we should fight for it.

I just want it on record...this conservative loves John Ashcroft. To me,Ashcroft is outta the Jesse Helms mold, and that is as close to God as humans get. Go JUSTICE DEPARTMENT !!!!!!!!!

Ditto.

What I think drives the lib/media crazy about this man is his consistency. He has an old fasioned view that one day- he will answer to the ultimate intelligence in the unverse- one that bears not even a passing resmblance to the DNC.

I LOVE the web - here are a few comments on changing the law to extend the mayors term from some prominent Dems.

Former Mayor Ed Koch, a Democrat who served 12 years in office before the ban was enacted, told CNN Monday he supports the lifting of term limits but does not think Giuliani's term should be extended.

"They didn't do that for Abraham Lincoln or for FDR," Koch told CNN. "That would be very, very anti-democratic and that would never fly."

http://www.cnn.com/2001/ALLPOLITICS/09/24/rec.giuliani.term/

NEW YORK -- Mayor Rudolph Giuliani obtained the support Thursday of two of the three mayoral candidates for a plan that would allow him to stay on at City Hall for an extra three months while he guides the city through the aftermath of the World Trade Center attacks.

But Bronx Borough President Fernando Ferrer, one of the two Democrats still in the race, declined to support the idea, saying he was worried about the precedent it would set.

I'm sure there is more democratic double speak out there.

Just like the ballots in Florida where the voter voted for both candidates, in the democrats infinite wisdom, a double vote was of course for AlGore.

Is Ashcroft just commenting, or is he planning to file papers as an interesteed party to SCOTUS? That would mean that the RNC lawyers and the DNC lawyers will go before SCOTUS and another attorney, representing the AG (Executive) branch also gets to have input, right? Wouldn't this person be the solicitor General of the US, Ted Olson?

Anyone with good info, feel free to straighten me out!

Concerned About Politics, a fellow Freeper, mentioned it on a thread last night. You could Freep mail him. He seemed to have the exact quote.

Thinking she is in compliance and actually being in compliance are not necessarily the same. If she misunderstood, then she is not in compliance. I DO NOT WANT THIS TO BE THE CASE! But, if it is, I'm afraid I stand by stricting adhering to the letter of the law. Once you introduce any arbitrary element into the process, all bets are off and we have the BS we had in Florida in 2000. This is the only way we can keep order. After all, it's what we want our judges to do, right? Stick to the letter of the Constitution. We can't be hypocrites on this.

Looks like the Democrats are at it again, seems the DeKalb County Ga democrats are going to court for the cross over votes in the McKinney primary.

It's time to take back our country or lose it!!!!

If she misunderstood, then she is not in compliance.

By my understanding, the statute is ambiguous. Essentially, someone who is in an elected position must formally make known that they intend to resign at the end of the term before they can be eligible to run in another election. In Katherine Harris' case, however, it was already established that she was going to be leaving her position in January.

To use an analagous situation, if a landlord informs a tenant 45 days before the end of his lease that it will not be renewed, is the tenant still allowed to give 30 days' notice to the landlord of his intent to vacate at the end of the lease? Under some leases, the answer may technically be "yes", though I expect a judge in any of the states whose names don't contain the letter "J" would infer that the landlord was adequately informed of his own declarations whether or not the tenant iterated them back to him.
