Extremely efficacious as a program to de-legitimize American institutions such as civilian-controlled police forces.
Extremely efficacious as the camel's nose of American Totalitarianism.
OTOH, it provides steady, well-paid employment for thuggish half-wits; it at least organizes their brutish impulses so we don't suffer anarchy.

Well put. Another great plus of the drug war is that it subverts the values of our Founding Fathers. Puts an American stamp on precisely the heavy handed authoritarianism and opportunistic abuse of power that this country was founded
to oppose.
However, you do have a point that the idiot thugs that support the status quo could do worse if their candy were taken away...
