Bush cuts deal by leaving Daschle out

The White House engaged in a divide-and-conquer strategy with congressional Democrats that isolated Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle and won support for a resolution authorizing military force against Iraq.

The plan resulted in President Bush being surrounded in the Rose Garden yesterday by prominent Democrats who pledged support for the resolution. Mr. Daschle, meanwhile, was left to issue a one-page statement at the Capitol saying he expected the Senate to give Mr. Bush his way.

Bush is continually underestimated.

Remember when President Bush signed the CFR bill. No big Rose Garden signing. He did it at night and sent McCain the pen he used through the regular mail.

To hear the complaints of others about "compassionate conservative", you'd think Bush was some dumb RINO.

Think of it this way:
"Compassionate conservativism" is a way of picking the spots, finding where the Left is weakest, and then exploiting the weaknesses with hardball politics.
