[history]
If he serves out the rest of his term, U.S. Sen. Robert Torricelli, D-N.J., will have logged in two decades as a member of Congress.
He spent 14 years, or seven terms, in the House of Representatives and six years, or one term, in the Senate.

From Politicsnj.com In a 7-0 decision, the Justices, six of whom were appointed by GOP Gov. Christine Todd Whitman, said the right of New Jersey voters to have a choice in the U.S. Senate race supercedes a state law that said September 16 was the last day to replace a candidate on the fall ballot

From Politicsnj.com In a 7-0 decision, the Justices, six of whom were appointed by GOP Gov. Christine Todd Whitman You're wrong. We all know that our RINO elected officials only appoint "conservatives" to the judiciary. That's the only good reason given anymore to prop them up, so it must be true.
Right?

If Senators were paid less and received lower pensions, they'd be MORE corrupt. A lot more.
An obvious point, if you think about it, and demonstrated in many Third World Country bureaucracies, but it's one of those counterintuitive things people don't like to believe.

20 years' service net Torricelli a $74.4K/YR pensionPeanuts compared to what they rip off in campaign contributions, graft, etc. Why else would anyone spend millions of their own money to achieve the office? The earlier post lamenting compensation isn't enough is absurd

Peanuts compared to what they rip off...Yes, it's a good gig being a Democratic party politician. They do for themselves at taxpayer expense what Ken Lay of Enron did at the rate payers expense. If one is out of office, and is a good party member, one will be appointed to some commission at $50-$100K for a few years until the next election. Life is good when you're a Democrat.
Each state has these new breed of Democrat machine politicians that came out of the '60's. Calif. has Davis, Angelides, Feinstein and Boxer. NJ, Toricelli and etc. The "Nomenclatura" of the Demokratic party USSA. Welcome to the new world order, Comrades!

"If Senators were paid less and received lower pensions, they'd be MORE corrupt." That reminds me of something here in Taxachusetts: some years back the legislature gave itself a raise at 2 am. When they were defending themselves, they raised the argument that corruption was necessary to make ends meet, and the people should think of the raise as "payment to stay honest."
