Why not have them love us because they do not fear us?
We should be an example that the world wishes to emulate.
I don't care if they love us or not! What's "love" got to do with anything?
We should be an example that the world wishes to emulate.
The world already emulates us.
You speak and think in the positive. I speak and think in the normative. In other words, ideology doesn't rule me as it appears to rule you.
So, again, Oderint dum metuant.
Oh please, if you have a perfect US position regarding the Palestinians, or India-Pakistan, or China-Taiwan, or any of a hundred other conflicts, not to mention a hundred trade disputes we have directly with other nations, please toss it on the table. Fact is, we are the proverbial bull in the china shop, and our every action and non-action are under a microscope. You can't please everyone, and it's going to be damn rare you can please even a slim majority when everyone thinks we can wave a wand and make their troubles go away. If we don't, we're the bad guys for hoarding our wealth and power. If we do, we're imperialists destroying foreign cultures.
Why not have them love us? Hell, why not have them all over for a pajama party, we'll make s'mores and tell campfire stories.
