"Do they shut them down and evacuate?"

They were all evacuated last week. This is a long process, so they may not even opened back up since last week's hurricane. Evacuation of all rigs (OSHA) can take three to fours days including the shut down process.

Now the good part, on shore rigs NEVER shut down and there isn't a Federal Law that says it has to be done. I have worked on land based rigs. If you are inside the barrier islands, then you are on shore. Hopefully some common sense has set in since my days of this. But common sense gets one fired.

My brother(mudlogger) had not even been called back to his offshore rig after Izzy, so is now at home. My brother-in-law (toolpusher) is in a thirty day rotation on a rig in Algeria. And he cannot return even though frantic of his family.
