Thanks for the info. :-)
To: All
Currently, all is semi-calm outside, at least compared to what we just had.

I'm seeing outter rain bands all the way to the TX/LA border, are you sure this thing is going to go North?
To: Uncle Sham
Starting to kick a little now. Gusts probably up to 60-65 mph. Power blinked a couple of times.
To: The KG9 Kid
No. It is not as dangerous because it is not really feeding off the gulf stream and power that surrounds that part of Florida which is damn intense and just fuel for a cane. This is dangerous like it because it is compact. Compact canes tend to be wind storms and not rain makers. Which means potential for tornadoes are greater. It has already maxed itself out and will most likely be around 125 mph come 9am. Andrew was well past the entire Glades by the time it got to that point.

Isn't this hurricane just as dangerous?
Lili is deteriorating pretty rapidly...pressure now up to 957 mb per recon; this flight has been unable to find ANY winds above 92 kts flight level; and surface winds are typically 90% of flight level.
There's actually a very high chance of this storm being a Cat 2 at landfall.
Very common with Gulf storms; but people only remember the ones that didn't weaken rapidly right before landfall.
To: The Cajun
956 mb was 938 6 hrs ago. Winds are 135 mph.

Oh good, I found one on the mapquest site. Thank you for the links! Now when I want to pull out my hair over not having a good atlas in the house I can go there to look things up. Can't buy one where I live, but I think soon I will break down and order one. I used to have a good National Geographic atlas but got rid of it during The Move because it was so big and cumbersome. I regret that now.

Just checked the outside. Nothing out of place but lots of water flowing down the street.

I'm going to bed now. Once again, good luck to all.
Will check up on you tomorrow. ;)
To: The Cajun
Good luck over there!

Aren't people in New Orleans buried above ground in tombs or something? Seems as if I heard once that because of the low level of the land they have to bury them above ground. New Orleans must have really suffered a lot of damage during Camille. I guess the people who built the old buildings way back when knew what they are doing because they are still standing after centuries of hurricanes.

We all are going to need a little luck before the day is over with. Keep hanging in there.
To: Uncle Sham
pressure now 957 mb..so weakening has leveled off..and cloud tops cooling now on SW side of storm
To: Uncle Sham
You're the guy in New Iberia! I was wondering how you were faring while my husband temporarily kicked me off the computer so he could get on. Thank you so much for your information as phones don't seem to be working anymore. Plus now it's too late to call people there, although I doubt anyone in your area is sleeping too well tonight!

This thing is gonna rip the same area that Andrew did in 92. At least it appears so.
To: DBtoo
Oh Oh it's looking real bad. Mother in law is about to win the card game! Total disaster! :-)

"...and cloud tops cooling now on SW side of storm"
What does that indicate? Also, I'm just looking with an untrained eye, but the track of the eye seems to be moving in a direction that would take it over the west end of Marsh Island and Abbeville, rather than Franklin. Of course it could turn north or northeast, but it doesn't look like that so far on the NWS Lake Charles & New Orleans long range radar loop.

The eye is appearing on the edge of the Lake Charles short-range radar.
