Seriously, at night we would have DC-9 Nightengales fly into Keesler and we would unload the combat veterans that were wounded in Viet Nam and were being sent to the military hospital closest to their homes. These guys had been treated at other hospitals until they were stable enough to get to a hospital close where loved ones could be with them more often. These were the veterans, the ones that deserved respect and honor for their sacrifices. There is no way my duty in CONUS could be considered equal to what they had gone through and accomplished.
Caring for the wounded night after night is one of the toughest jobs a vet could have had.
Do not sell yourself short.
Vietnam or stateside, that is one of the most traumatic assignments a person could have.
I would not have wanted that job for all the promotions in the world.
I wish You well.
