MONTVILLE, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 1, 2002--Offering to bring clarity to the Democratic quandary of who should replace Senator Torricceli in the bid for U.S. Senate, mother of Lockerbie bombing victim, New Jersey school teacher and commissioner of the Presidential commission of aviation safety and security, Kathleen Flynn announced her interest in winning next month's election to the Democratic Leadership this afternoon.
In a letter to Governor McGreevey (excerpted below), Kathleen Flynn outlined her policy to fight terrorism, increase national security and reform education. For 15 years, Flynn has been working with Senate leaders, such as Senator Kennedy, building tougher sanctions against states that sponsor terrorism (e.g. Iran/Libya Sanctions Act '96).
"It's time for citizens to be more proactive and take up the gauntlet", Said Kathleen Flynn. "I've spent 15 years walking the halls of Congress as an advocate, and now it's time to get into office and fight for what is right, what is good for America, and for what is good for the citizens of New Jersey."
As commissioner of the Presidential commission of aviation and safety security, Flynn put forward a number of successful recommendations that have been made mandatory at airports and public places nationwide.
With her husband Jack Flynn, Kathleen is a 30-year resident of Montville, New Jersey and is the mother of three children. She was a professional educator and administrator and a graduate of Marymount College with a degree in political science. She is recognized internationally as an expert on terrorism and has been published frequently in The New York Times, Washington Post and appears regularly on "60 Minutes", CNN, MSNBC, BBC and NBC's "Today Show".
Letter to the Governor is as follows:
Dear Governor McGreevey,
New Jerseyans have been pushed over the edge in the latest political debacle of the supposed campaigns for the US Senate seat in NJ. There are thousands of John Q. or Jane Q. Public, ordinary, law-abiding citizens, who are disturbed and disgusted by the ridiculous, non-issue, nonsense, campaign rhetoric that has been bandied about by both candidates. It is almost embarrassing to admit one is from NJ when one is subjected to this political junk.
I would like to say I had an Epiphany and decided I had a calling to enter into this campaign. It is not really so dramatic. Rather it is a long-shot on the part of a person who has had enough of watching from the sidelines rather than taking the leap into the political arena to serve the American people. The Greek philosopher, Plato, described politics as the highest of all callings- to serve your fellow man. Somehow, that job description has been lost in this Senate race here in NJ.
I have spent the past fourteen years as an activist for the elimination of terrorism. My oldest son, JP Flynn was murdered in an act of terrorism when Pan Am 103 was blown out of the skies over Lockerbie, Scotland by Libyan terrorists. I have also spent the past fourteen years lobbying the Congress for increased airport security and served on the President's Commission on Aviation Safety and Security (Gore Commission). I am a teacher by profession and have spent my career in education and finally, I am a woman who has fought breast cancer and hopefully won the battle. So more experience than most Congressmen in the areas that matter most to our citizens: terrorism, aviation security, education and healthcare.
My motive for running is simple: Open the political window in NJ for some fresh ideas and politicians who aspire to Plato's definition. By way of this letter I am asking for your support, the support of the Democratic party, and the support of all of New Jersey citizens for a candidate that cares passionately about the issues that matter.
Thank you for your support.
Sincerely yours,
Kathleen R. Flynn
That's right. "The Snuffed out Torch" is still senator of N.J. He's just not running for re-election; the only part of him that's still running is his tears, BAH HA HA HA. Poor me, I did everything for the people of N.J. and I can't get any forgiveness from them... BAH HA HA HA...BA HA HA HA...BAH HA HA HA...BA HA HA HA. They should all bow down and worship me. BAH HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA.

This is either a breathtaking example of media bias, OR this ladies big swelled head will never fit through the Senate chamber doors.
The sad part is the answer would probably be "Yes, we can guarantee you the win."
The election has already begun. Absentee ballots have already been sent out to voters. In some counties those ballots have already been returned. To change an election after it has already started is a violation of Federal law and would disenfranchise those who have already voted.
This action by Democrats will, I believe, cost them votes in other states. They are going to lose more than this Senate seat in New Jersey.
