The article fails to point out that the 51 day rule would be rendered a dead letter. There would be no factual situation to which it applied. It is akin to the court taking white out and affixing it to this statute. This cannot be done under the present facts. I can't imagine it being done. It would be an embarrassment to do it. They are no legal mechanics available to do it, not even ersatz ones that would serve as a fig leaf. The NJSC knows it cannot reder the 51 day rule unconstitutional under the NJ Constitution after SCOTUS educated us all on that.
As usual, when matters get complex, the media sucks.

As usual, when matters get complex, the media sucks. Close, but not quite. When matters get complex, the media decides on the solution they prefer, present it as a fait accompli -- then do their best to ignore or out-talk any view that contradicts that.
The media is just as scared of a Republican victory as the DemonCRAP leadership and will do anything and everything they can to help prevent it.

Their aim right now is not to render a factual account of the language of the law, just how that language can be manipulated.

They would not be doing this unless the fix was already in. They already know the outcome of this Supreme Court decision. Why else would they do this?

The states can set their own rules for electing Senators. However once set, the rules must be followed. I guess that if the NJSC voids the 51 day rule the USSC could get involved, forcing NJ to follow its own election laws.
