NBC'S BROKAW REPORTS DEMS SCURRY TO GET TORI REPLACEMENT A "FIASCO" AND "CHAOS"
Posted on 10/01/2002 4:30:04 PM PDT by Liz
Couldn't have said it better myself. So schadenfreud-ish in that Torricelli's forced exit from the race b/c he is an ethical nightmare for Dems tuns into a Dem nightmare to replace him.

So many worthy nominees eligible for The Beckel Prize for giving FReepers the full schadenfreud experience. Who to nominate?

Torch delivered the Dem response to the president's radio address Saturday, Breaux still defended Torch on TV Sunday morning, the NJEA still came out with an endorsement of Torch on Sunday, and then on Monday everything had changed. You'd think the Dems would have prepared things better before they went public.
To: Liz
I don't believe any of this, anymore than I believe the Torch just dropped out in spite of Clinton begging him otherwise. The screws were put to him, he was forced out, which means there is a plan in place. I can't believe the Demos did this without having something or someone in mind. But just what is it? Enquiring minds want to know...

You'd think the Dems would have prepared things better before they went public. The were NOT expecting to have to pull T. I think the republicans pulled out the wild card and leaked it along with the "memo" going public he was toast.

My take is that Lautenburg (sp) will run and win, serve two years and then "someone" else will be appointed after he resigns.

Think it was Will Rogers who said, "I don't belong to an organized political party. I'm a Democrat."

The Torch has been extinguished. May the forces of good bestow the common people of New Jersey to their just cause. HOO RAH!
To: I still care
got to love it though, watching them melt - but wait the press will have more to come!

O'Reilly interviewd a NJ political observer who said every Dem running for dog catcher on up was panicked they were
going to lose w/ Tori at the top of the ticket. And all of them put the screws to party leaders to force him out.

I agree....you can't tell me that the Rats pulled this stunt without knowing how the NJ courts would rule.....I heard this all started late Fri...they had all weekend to make their *calls*

Brit Hume says Lautenburg said He isn't going to pay for this run, and the panel agreed that even if Torricelli resigns and the governor appoints him, he can only be there until Torch's term is up. They simply cannot change the rules for a FEDERAL office at the state level.

You'd think the Dems would have prepared things better.Don't worry, I'm sure the Noo Joizy Supremes were "prepared" well in advance, if ya know what I mean. Hey, it's NJ! The fix is in, baby!

I don't believe any of this, anymore than I believe the Torch just dropped out in spite of Clinton begging him otherwise.Torch says clinton asked him to stay and Rush hypothesizes that clinton told him he has to go. Whom do you believe?

The Torch said that he was sorry he let Clinton down. How low do you have to go to let Clinton down?

During dinner, I the little non-cable set in the kitchen on the ABC channel news with Peter something or other. Got some breast cancer, dock strike, aging football players, bus security, but not one word on Torrecelli. The dems must really be in trouble when the media commies won't even mention a story that will make them look bad. That deep bias is why I continue to maintain that in the 2000 election coverage, the media intentionally declared Florida for PanderAl knowing it wasn't true in the hope of countering Nader's possible effect on the flaming leftists in California.

Exactly, that would have been an interesting conversation to hear. From what Rush read today, Torch was armtwisted into leaving. Now either the fix has to be in with the Supremes, or there is some underhanded stuff going on somewhere else we haven't spotted yet.
To: Howlin
The Constitution is quite clear on this Howlin. Senators serve six year terms, there is no exception for scumbags from New Jersey and if McGreevey tries to extend the Torch's reign to seven years through a surrogate he will be smacked down by SCOTUS before he can write Lautenberg.
