There was considerable gossip about this officer and his partner collectively known as Batman and Robin. Patterson's wife worked for the number one drug defense attorney in town. What on earth could they possibly talk about at the dinner table?....A major conflict of interests...IMHO. He and his partner were both building expensive homes (for street cops anyway), side by side, on suburban 3 acre tracts. Patterson's brother was alledgedly dealing drugs himself. Rumor being that Batman seized them and he sold them.
The MO of this "elite" team was to pull cars over on traffic violations near drug houses. Then convince the drivers to "consent to search said vehicle" using strong arm tactics. The people that refused were released as no warrant would actually be forthcoming due to lack of probable cause. After being released they would be pulled over and/or harrassed in their homes indefinately.
