I'm in the same boat. Rather then say "half-Jew" I just say that I'm half Hebrew.... not exactly accurate either as the Jewish/Hebrew half is mixed just like everything else (polish and such). I only identify myself as "half-hebrew" to explain some of the culturally differences to my southern inlaws.

This issue is both fascinating, and for me, very relevant (as I am the gentile in one of the dreaded "mixed marriages"). My two children, being born of a Jewish mother, are either "half-jews" or "jews", depending on the person doing the categorizing.

I wish that there was a website for christian spouses of jews....we certainly need one. Organized judaism tends to treat us like an infectious disease that needs to be "treated" or "contained"....as in "this problem is spreading in the community".....or "if this keeps up, we'll all be wiped out".

I also find myself in other strange situations. Some Jews naturally think that I am Jewish...since my wife is Jewish and I look Jewish. Thus, they occasionally say derogatory things to me about "goys", etc.

On the flip side, I sometimes get anti-semitic jokes, etc told in my presence by gentiles who don't know that my wife is Jewish (I can't tell you how many times--when I lived in Texas---friends and coworkers used the word "jew" as a verb in my presence. As in "I went to the car dealer and tried to jew him down").

All in all...its been an interesting experience, which I'm sure will get even more so as my children get older.
