Uranium seized in Turkey (names the suspects); US in consultations

ISTANBUL, Turkey (CNN) -- Turkish officials said Saturday they have seized 34.6 pounds of uranium and arrested two Turkish men in Urfa, a town in southeastern Turkey. U.S. officials are in touch with authorities to get information about the seizure.

Iraq at the present time is a threat to the United States and the rest of the Free World! Iraq cannot be allowed to develope or possess weapons of mass destruction. Sadam Hussein has used weapons of mass destruction on his own people as well as having used them during Iraq's war with Iran(It's being looked into if he used them against Our troops during the Gulf War). I would not be surprised if Hussein's regime backed the attack on New York and Washington on 9/11!!!! To allow Hussein's Regime to aquire(if he has'nt already) Nuclear weapons or transfer weapons of mass destruction technology to other Terrorist entities would be Disastrous!!!! Hussein and his Bathe Party are very Brutal(with proven Deadliness) to Iraq's own people. Don't believe the Democrats party line that War with Iraq is not part of the War On Terror!!!! Eliminating Hussein and his Bathe Party and replacing it with a Free and Democratic Government helpful to the Iraqi people as well as the rest of the world will be a BIG VICTORY in the WAR ON TERROR!!!! The War On Terror and Eliminating Hussein is one and the same!!!! Hussein and his Bathe party are proven terrorist(against Kuwait as well as his own people) that must be eliminated!!!!

After reading much information here and at linked sites provided for, it sounds to me that at best, this stuff is going to be material that would eventually wind up in a nuclear power plant (required to make the fuel pellets out of such material). The enrichment would be in the 2-3% range. Far from being refined enough to be useful in a nuclear chain reaction weapon. Granted if it is uranium, it is the right material to start the process of refinement/enrichment. It clearly shows motive and intent. Good enough for me. Never Forget 9-11 Let's Roll

IF... this is low grade stuff, I wouldn't think that such a low grade of enriched uranium (2-3%)would be worth as much as $5 million, compared to the weapons grade type (80%). If 2-3% is worth 5 million, what is 80% worth ? That's a difference of 27-40 times more refined/enriched ? Can't be the same value. (?) Or is the enriched stuff at 80% worth the 5 million ?

The reported story earlier today was 33 pounds of weapons grade uranium. Now they're reporting that they haven't verified if it's even uranium, much less weapons grade. I think I'll stick to the first story.

The rats will in effect be defending (who, I have no clue) on the following issue that, IF, this stuff is un-enriched, then the threat is much less than if it were to be discovered that the goo is highly enriched uranium. I predict that they will wonk on and on about weapons grade versus industrial grade.

Not a very sophisticated smuggling job huh? This is probably a hoax or the uranium was meant to be found. Maybe we should call in the tinfoil crowd and have them figure this one out. I just can't see weapons grade uranium, worth 5 million dead presidents, being transported under a car seat.

In other words, 100 lbs of lightly enriched uranium 2-3% pure, would give oneself after refinement (80% pure) how many pounds of highly enriched uranium ?
