I hate to give credit to a Dem, but Truman did come through when it counted. He was up to his ass in alligators for the entirety of his term, most of them direct foreign threats.
He made some damn hard calls. The Bomb. The Greek Civil war. The Iron Curtain. The Berlin Airlift. Korea. The failed haberdasher was the guy on call for development of the H-Bomb and supersonic flight - and was in charge when the current DoD and intelligence services were reorganized into their current form.
Really remarkable, but a uniquely American story.
I think George W.Bush is a combination of some of the best parts of Truman, Eisenhower and Reagan, all rolled into one. He didn't have the resume that Ike had, but who did, or the conservative credentials of Reagan. Like Harry Truman, Bush has answered the call of duty and is doing a remarkable job for the American people.
Another uniquely American story.
