Turkish police seize weapons-bound uranium 28/09/2002 - 11:04:38
Paramilitary police in Turkey have seized 15.7 kilograms of uranium and arrested two Turks who they said planned to sell the weapons-grade substance, the Anatolia news agency reported today.
Police, acting on a tip, stopped a taxi near the south-eastern city of Sanliurfa, Anatolia said. They found the uranium in a secret compartment under one of the car seats.
Police in Sanliurfa confirmed the arrests but refused to give further information.
Anatolia said the uranium was enriched for use in weapons. Police believe it was smuggled from an eastern European country.
The agency did not say when the arrests were made.
Sanliurfa, 480 miles from the capital Ankara, is close to the Syrian border.

PINGI am ecstatic that this shipment was stopped by the Turkish Gendarmes, however i wonder if this was the only shipment or one of several (with the others going through to their destination unimpeded).
I am also wondering where the stuff was heading? Probably Saddam is the biggest destination probability, however Syria is quite near too and some jehadi group may have wanted it for a dirty device (which is better than an Iraqi nuke, but at the same time not good news).
And why does the stuff have a tag saying it came from West Germany (exactly when was this material 'lost' or sold)? And who was the middleman behind this deal? (I believe knowing the middleman and source is actually more important than knowing the buyer because although there are many buyers out there who would want fissile material there are comparatively fewer sellers who have the balls and incentive to sell radioactive stuff).
I hope something is being done about this!

I think the Democrats would be glad if Iraq did obtain nuclear material. If it did, then the US couldn't go after Iraq at all because the risk would be too high. And then the Dems could go on forever over how ineffective this administration was with Iraq.
I think Clinton is outraged the 9/11 attack didn't happen when he had the White House. Seeing he ignored all, and I mean many, threats and attacks on Americans, I think he wanted America to get a serious attack. Imagine Clinton declaring Marshal law! He would become supreme dictator, and never go away. All arms to protect oneslf would be immediatly banned. You think he's bad now!
Personally, I feel the extreme left, the socialists, would love America to fall. It's the only way they can rebuild and create their total control Marxist society. The oppertunity for the government to rule everything. Wealth distribution, food distribution, goods distribution. It would be a Democrats utopia. Aren't they attempting to do that now through legislation? Wouldn't a serious attack just do the job quicker?

The West German tag means that the container is at least 10 years old or recycled to hold this stuff.
West Germany hasn't existed for a while.

CBS radio news had it on at the hour newsbreak, here on the west coast.
drip, drip, drip....
DEMS are gonna feel pretty stupid and distraught if one of those dirty bombs is set off here in the USA, after fiendstink, dasshole, and gebfart castigated the administration for warning about the need for homeland security with full powers, NOW... of course by then, it will be too late to cry... Way to go tommi d.
This enriched stuff can be used to make the real thing, not just a dirty one... but with our incredibly tight security for the last several years on our borders, I am positive that the Clinton (and subsequent Bush) administrations would have stopped these from coming in on container ships, or from being carried in manually by illegal aliens, using our unguarded borders with canada or mexico...
YUP... absolutely positive, ESPECIALLY since Clinton's "crack" team of sink scrubbers made this their top priority... no WAY we could have one of those things already setting in the center of a major metropolitan center...
Gulp. We can afford to play politics with the president's "Homeland Security" requests, can't we Tommi D???
psyops... I know you are not tommi d... I just used your post to post my ping with...

Urfa is almost 100% Kurdish
and is the home town of Abdullah Ocalan
the Kurdish terrorist leader of the PKK.
Coincidence? Perhaps.

Let's Freep mail Daschle, Gephardt, Kennedy, etc. Maybe if they "get the memo" they'll understand their political games aren't funny to the majority of the country.
