snowe and chaffee will jump...
we need to gain three to keep the jumpers out of the zone where they can be "bought" with a seat on committee by Daschle.
They are saying that we have four pretty much as a minimum... and a gain by as much of eight is potential. gaining eight would put us in the 57-58 range... but is not likely we will get there.
I look for chaffee to jump, if we only gain one.

If vacant Lott had a brain he would be cultivating a dem switch to the GOP. Vacant Lott and brain, did I say that ?

I don't really think Snowe would jump. I know she's liberal; but she did support the President in the election (I know, so did Jeffords), but she does go along with the Pres. on many things. Also, if she was going to jump; wouldn't she have done it when Jeffords did? Has she threatened to jump, and I've missed it?
I seemed to remember her saying she was surprised, or dismayed when Jeffords jumped, but I can't remember exactly what she said. I have a feeling that if anyone jumps; it would be L. Chaffee.

I look for chaffee to jump, if we only gain one. My guess: Toricelli loses. Carnahan loses. Chaffee jumps. Snowe holds. We win.

Nonsense. If we regain the majority, neither Chafee nor Snowe nor McCain will jump. The RATS have nothing to offer them in the minority, and they would lose their seniority entirely.
Jeffords would have never jumped without the assurance of the chairmanship of the Environmental committee.
