This is great news. It means that even if Harkin does pull out the win here, the DNC has to spend more of its money in Iowa than in other races.

By my estimation, it seems like the Republicans have a great shot of retaking the Senate in November. Look at it this way:

There seems to be only one seat currently held by a Republican that is seriously being challenged: Tim Hutchinson in Arkansas.

On the contrary, there are TONS of currently held Democratic seats that are in serious trouble:

Torch in NJ, Carnahan in MO, Johnson in SD, Wellstone in MN, and Harkin in IA.

So, for the Democrats to hold onto the Senate, it seems like they have to either win in Arkansas over Tim Hutchinson and win at least four out of the five questionable Democratic seats above. If Hutchinson wins, then the Dems have to run the table on their vulnerable seats. Either way, this is going to be tough for the Dems to pull off. Basically, everything has to go their way.

And everything is not going to go their way, with the war in Iraq about to start.

Well, there are a lot of them, but it's not really TONS of them until Teddy K. is up for reelection. :-)
