You don't think it will be guaranteed? Even if it is not, did you ever hear of a government medical program that was ever cut in real dollars? I know only of the ones that have expanded, most well past the rate of inflation.

Look, I know and to some extent agree with your viewpoint but this country is NOT going to allow old people to go without medical care just because they are poor. You may as well accept it.

Well, the reality is that we don't have the money for a new entitlement like this without raising taxes or cutting the budgets of other programs. Since we are in a state of war for the foreseeable future and our military has been under funded for more than 10 years it won't come out of that budget. Let's see SS, Medicaid, Medicare? Nope, in fact those programs need MUCH MORE funding if they are to stay solvent. Gee, I don't see where we can make room for prescription drug coverage with just about all the budget off-limits for budget reductions. Looks like we have to raise taxes some more!

And by the way, it's a wonder how most people ever got by without government assistance all these years. Oh it's only for the poor you say? Let's get real, the program will most certainly include the bulk of the middle class because that's where the votes are.
