Okay, I agree the influx of illegal workers must be stopped. But, where are does citizens or legal residents that will take over the demeaning tasks. I hope we have enough willing Americans to fill in the gap, truly.

There is ~8% unemployment in my area. Who do you think did these jobs before the invasion of illegals? When I was a kid, the chicken processing plants in the SE US paid well enough that black and white AMERICANS with a high school education could support a family on their wages. Now, the chicken plants import illegals to do this work, pay them 1/3 what they were paying the locals who've been intimidated and threatened out by the new employees. The employers now pocket the difference in wages, expect the tax payer to provide healthcare and other items for the illegals. HAve you seen chicken get cheaper?

They don't just do the demeaning jobs. They work at carpet manufacturers. Furniture manufacturers, and many more that used to employ Americans at decent (but nowhere near astronomical) wages. Now the Americans are working 2-3 jobs at McD's and trying to make ends meet, the manufacturers are squealing with delight at their profits and the American people are stuck with the problem of illegals. I haven't seen any products get cheaper in the past 15 years that aren't already imported. Is your carpet cheaper? Furniture? produce? processed meat?

Now it's hard to find construction crews that aren't all or mostly illegals. I know lots of Americans that would work construction, but not for the $4/$6/hr with no healthcare like the illegals. The illegals get paid cash under the table most times with no SS or taxes taken out. We pay their healthcare. It's insane. Not to mention a good many of the illegals in my neighborhood now are the kind that wear head linen. In fact, several of them were busted by the feds during terrorist sweeps in sep/oct 01.
