But she had *no* business saying anything at all about immigration. Period. I don't think she said anything that wasn't run by her hubby first either. I don't think she's a doormat or 'yes person', but I don't think she'd say anything that she didn't think he'd agree with or support or do anything that would cause him embarassment if he didn't feel that way. Did you get a copy of the letter he sent out from Crawford where he explicitly stated he'd work hard to push for approval of 245(i)? Even though an overwhelming majority of Americans oppose it. Why is he pushing something that most *every* American of either party opposes?

I don't agree with the trend that was happening BEFORE 9/11 with regard to immigration in President Bush's administration. It is an important issue. I do think President Bush has shown he is capable of changing his opinion when proved wrong. I think he has shown a shift in immigration. There are steps that need to be taken. Both countries working together to accomplish a working relationship and one that would benefit BOTH countries would be a good thing. Improved quality of life for Mexicans, would allow them to stay in their own country.
It is a complex issue.
I'm not for more open borders or even allowing people who came here illegally to STAY.
But I noticed how what the First Lady "did say", could have been about a number of things regarding CHILDREN!!
There WERE NO QUOTATION marks around the comment everyone is attributing to her.
This thread is mere "shark attack" mentality at its best, I SHOULD SAY AT ITS WORST!!
This President inherited a NUMBER of HUGE problems. 9/11 being of the most important in rank of priority.
I think we have some really big issues taking place in our country right now. And misquoting our First Lady is not on the top of my list as important!
I follow a lot of threads you are on, and we share simular interests. I have great respect for you. But I disagree on this one, and feel we need to wait and see if she really quoted a policy, or if her words were taken out of context.
She is an awesome First Lady. Refreshing to say the least..
This is a really "rabid" thread. IMHO
FRegards!
