Unfortunately, the author isn’t knowledgeable of the English language, as many people are illiterate, these days.

The author is an English professor in New Hampshire. I have one of his books, entitled "Anguished English". So I think he probably knows at least SOME English. Look up Richard Lederer on Google. You've probably seen this collection of student bloopers. It's one of the earliest joke emails to make the rounds in the days when the Internet was becoming popular.
