BREAKING NEWS: PATTON TO DROP OUT OF SENATE RACE
http://www.kfvs12.com ^ | September 24, 2002 | Heartland News

Posted on 09/24/2002 5:11:41 PM PDT by ATOMIC_PUNK

Governor Paul Patton appeared live in a news conference to withdraw from the Senate race against Republican Jim Bunning. Governor Patton stated that he had issued a formal statement responding to all questions surrounding the Tina Conner allegations and refused to respond to any questions on that subject. This all stems from the controversy over his admitted affair with a Heartland nursing home operator, Tina Conner, and word of another alleged affair.

Meanwhile The Executive Branch Ethics Commission will be thrust into the spotlight as it examines whether Governor Paul Patton improperly used his office to help a woman with whom he had an affair.

And, Democrats running for office this fall will have to do it without Governor Paul Patton. Patton said today he did not plan to get involved in any campaign in the foreseeable future. He told state Democratic Chairman Jerry Johnson to administer the party without him.

Tina Conner, who alleges she and the governor had a two-year sexual relationship. Conner claims a vengeful Patton turned regulators on her nursing home in Clinton after she broke off the relationship. Johnson says the party's fund raising for fall campaigns is mostly complete, and Patton's involvement would not be necessary. In addition, Democratic candidates for legislative and congressional offices are running their own campaigns. Johnson says Patton's announcement has little bearing on any race.

Does this mean he is hanging on to the governor's office? If so, whatever he does, as long as he stays alive in politics it will throw all the Dems in the state into total chaos.

I shouldn't think it would help the Dems lower down on the ticket in November, either. With no senate candidate to draw voters, a lot of Dems may stay home.

I wouldn't bet a whole lot of money, but I am pretty sure Bunning is the incumbent. Therefore, It is a seat they don't have to worry about...but it doesn't get the Republicans any closer to the majority.

I think he plans to. He's also the current chair of the National Governor's Association.

The Senate race isn't until 2004. The RATS have time to field another candidate, but whoever they pick will be tainted (duh, like they weren't already just for being RATS).

I spoke to a man today from Kentucky, an admitted liberal, and he was genuinely sickened that Patton had been "found out".He said Patton had been a good Governor.I know nothing about Kentucky politics, but it brought back a big stench of the Clinton years to me.

I am glad Patton at least had enough class to step down from the Senate race.

What do we have to do to get rid of Lott as possible Majority Leader?

Isn't there any penalty for doing such a poor job that your party loses its majority status?

Does this loser have pictures of the rest of the Pubbie Senators?

Whose seat was this?

The seat being talked about is that held by Republican incumbent Jim Bunning - the former major league baseball pitcher. It was considered that Patton would run against Bunning in 2004, when the seat is up for election. Patton has now said that he won't run. That doesn't mean, in any way, shape, manner or form, that another DemocRAT won't try to unseat Bunning in 2004.

no,
but we will get judicial votes up or down by the whole senate.. AND we will end the 60 vote cloture form of obstruction, and daschle's patent refusal to table debate roadblocks to conservative legislative movement.

And votes, broght to the floor, will be used to expose the minority democrat leadership, in ways we have hitherto unseen. Jeffords will be made an example of.

I don't think Bunning is up this term. Patton must be dropping out against Mitch McConnell. THere are other contenders i the democratic race. Bunning just came in in 1996. His term will be up in 2006. Bunning is a former professional baseball player. His son just won a judicial seat after an outrageous senate judiciary hearing with the dems, Leahy and Kennedy doing all the damage they could. Senator Bunning hads nine children. He is a good man and strongly supports Bush on Irag.
