The Two Towers is going to be the most amazing film of the year. I am taking off the day it opens to see it a couple of times.

Having read the books (once), and loved the first movie, I can't wait to see the next one.

(IMHO, the most effective scene in LOTR-1 was when the Orc was shooting arrows at whats-his-face (Boromir?). The creaking of the bow, and the sound of the release of the string, and the sound of the arrow.... It sent shivers up my spine.)

How many will, like me, be asking for that day off from work?

...new computer-generated character Gollum, who puts Jar Jar Binks to shame.

This doesn't seem like much of an accomplishment to me. A wet diaper could put J.J. Binks to shame.

I freely admit that I did not understand what all the fuss was about in LOTR. Now, having seen it, I do.

I will be going to see the second installment.

I will - Gonna do the midnight show! And then catch some sleep and do the matinee, just to see if I like it.

Midnight, that's cool.

Valerie and I just plan to buy consecutive tickets, back to back. Go in, watch, come out, go back in, watch again....

." This may be another Oscar nominee for Best Picture.

It will be nominated, but it won't win. LOTR should have won last year -- it was head and shoulders above all the other nominations. I saw A Beautiful Mind, and it was a very good movie -- but it couldn't compare to LOTR. I really don't like the academy awards, and I can't believe I watch them sometimes because they always piss me off.

I also thought Peter Jackson should have won Best Director. Look what he did! Anyone can direct a drama, but something like LOTR is so breathtaking and complex and brilliant -- they (the academy) should be ashamed of themselves.

Though I thoroughly enjoy these movies it kind of takes some of the fun out of it when i realize that, in a small way, i am making Ted Turner richer by seeing it.

first installment has made about a billion dollars worldwide so far.

Dan, do you know what it cost to make?

About $90 million. $270 million for the whole trilogy. Not taking advertising into account, of course, and any other expenses.
