Blythe, the famous gypsy family of Scotland. A Bill Clinton connection?
website ^

Posted on 09/21/2002 7:01:17 PM PDT by dennisw

The Yetholm (Scotland) Gypsies have made the village famous throughout the world. The Faa and Blythe groupings were the dominant families in British Gypsy culture throughout the past three hundred years. Although gypsy blood still courses through many local veins, the discreet family links have died out as the members have intermarried with the locals. The Baillie, Tait, Douglas, Young, Gordon and Blyth families all have blood links with the gypsy families of the past. The former 'Gypsy Palace' is just off Kirk Yetholm Green, on the road to Halterburn. Once the home of the King of the Gypsies, it is now a private house.

Matters are complicated by the fact that many American gypsies, when asked, prefer to identify themselves by national origin. America's Roma are divided into a bewildering array of ethnic and cultural subgroups from almost every country of Europe and the Middle East. Even Bill Clinton is said to have gypsy blood; his biological father, William Blythe, may have been one of the Blythe clan, a gypsy family from the Scottish borders.

It's all the same family, but Billzo's Blythe folks arrived quite early.

An interesting sidelight to all of this is his birth father's connection to the Church of the First born. It's an old cult, more American Indian in origin than European, and Billzo took care that they could continue to use peyote lawfully while he was President.

His grandmother was a fortune teller in a carnival. He traveled with his mother and grandmother in the summers.

Not really. His ancestry can also be traced to President John Adams and President William Henry Harrison, same as with the Bush family!

Good one! I have always thought he came from under a slimy rock.

Gee I wish you hadn't told me about Bubba being related to President Harrison as I share an ancestry there too. I guess all of us have a few horse thieves in our family somewhere.

You nailed that one right into the floorboards. The scumbag just played the nation like he was spinning the wheel of fortune for the saturday night rubes in a neon-lit cornfield. That kind of lifestyle often has a vary bad ending. I betting that scumbag gets his final jackpot in spades.

Apparently at least some of the gypsies have disowned him:

Bill Clinton no Rom

Pretty bad when even the Rom don't want to own you . . .

BTW, Blyth or Blythe is a pretty common Borders name, since it is a descriptive adjective and could have become anybody's surname. Now, if he had been a Faa, that name's uncommon enough that I'd believe there was probably a connection. There's an old ballad about "The Death of Johnny Faa" that I used to sing. He ran off with the Earl of Cassilis's lady and got hanged for it in 1624.

What got me looking into this was the traveler/grifter woman who beat her kid and made national news. Madelyne Toogood.

Madelyne Gorman Toogood leaves the St. Joseph County Jail, Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, in South Bend, Ind., after posting bond. Toogood is accused of child battery after a nationally televised videotape depicted her shaking, slapping and punching her 4-year-old daughter in an Indiana store parking lot last week. There's been a pretty extensive discussion re the Irish Travellers (to which this woman apparently belongs) vis a vis the English and Irish Romanies (gypsies) on another thread:

Woman Believed to be Member of Irish Travellers

General feeling over there is that this crowd is interesting at a distance but "bad, mad and dangerous to know", as somebody (Caro Lamb?) once said about Lord Byron.
