"But Marra, the associate athletic director at Wisconsin, said she reminded her men's coaches that the alternative was to drop a men's sport or two."

This is the ultimate socialist "zero-sum-game". Male athletics take away from female. Therefore enthusiam and participation in sports by men obviously detracts from participation by women, and must be controlled or eliminated.

Scholorship athletes are recruited in their junior year in high school. If you haven't made your mark by then you will be shut out of elite level college athletics. Those of you who think coaches are omniscient and will know the right 16 year-olds to offer scholarships consider this: How many first round draft picks in (name the professional sport) go on to be big stars with long term careers? How many late round choices are equally successful?

Title IX is socialist nightmare gone awry and needs to be eliminated. This is going to take some time and articles like this one showing the absurdity of post-Title IX athletics are very useful.

Amazing that you should post this to me! I was a first round draft pick of the Dodgers in the seventies. I was "scouted" in the ninth grade as a sixteen year old. Alas, as happens so often, an arm injury ended my dream.

I agree with your assesment of title IX.
