It may be rare for a hurricane in the Atlantic to hit the east coast, this time of year, but where is a hurricane in the Gulf going to go? They don't usually die out or turn around & go back the way they came.

Sometimes they just peter out and turn into nothing more than a soaking rainstorm. Especially after September 25th.

Yes they do, in the cold Atlantic, not in the warm Gulf. Thank God this one wore its self out on Yucatan & didn't lash its full fury on N.O. Texas was protected this time by a strong front from the north, often we don't get one of those until mid or late Oct. Try to imagine summer weather from May 1 till the end of Oct. The good news is the rest of the year is pretty darn nice.
