You're reaching and using Hollywood stereotyping on that one Illbay. I would like to see your proof. From my observances, I would say urban white trash in all parts of the country are in trouble family-intactness-wise.
I like you I really do but you've sure got this Southern axe to grind. I work in a white trash area of Nashville and I've seen the demise you refer to everywhere even in Minneapolis or Boston or Miami....same old thing. Lower income white trash has lost it's dignity (and yes it did once have some) for the most part. I would not place rural Southerners in exactly the same hell-in-a-handbasket.
White trash, "Hispanic" trash, Black trash, Asian trash are all melding together to mold one big underbelly of poverty and illegitimacy and thuggishness celebrating culture and it is a decidedly urban or near-urban trend.
You simply will not find the same trend with Nebraska farm folks or cotton growers in Mississippi or Wyoming cattle ranchers.
Respectfully.
OR I'm using my own experience having lived in the rural south most of my life.
Rather, coming from a social scientist perspective, Savage says the TV show is evidence of so much decay in modern American society in the last 20 years or so, particularly in the worse-off half in white communities. The lack of order, the lying and victim mentality, the 'I didn't do anything!' when caught, the degradation of it all.
And I am sure this is not just limited to the South, as "Cops" feature policemen dealing with American cultural decay in all regions of the country.
