Fred Thompson, now near the end of his U.S. Senate career, says the nation has yet to come to terms with the new world that is dawning.
In a Nashville speech yesterday to the National Conference of Editorial Writers, Tennessee's retiring U.S. senator worried aloud about how we can have a nimble homeland defense if it takes on the sluggish bureaucratic bloat of the rest of federal government.

I agree, Saudi is an enemy, but not the only one. I think we are dealing with each in different ways.
Saddam is a rattlesnake, gotta get the shovel and cut his head off.
The Saudis are sheep in wolves' clothing, we'll fence them in and tame them. Either that, or they die, too.
Um, no, I meant Iraq. Will this help you understand?

"Keep in mind, Sept 11 happened without a single weapon of mass destruction."
Oh, it did? What would you call anthrax?
Recommended reading.

Or do you reject anthrax as a WMD, because it produced so few casualties?
"I should take the word of a magazine writer on Iraq?"
You seem prepared to take the word of Saddam Hussein that he means us no harm...
That is precisely the attitude that the Clinton adminstration took when given evidence that terrorists would use commercial planes as weapons. And look where that got us.
Hussein used chemical weaopons on his OWN PEOPLE! Do you really think he wouldn't hesitate to use them against the US and Israel????
This situation with saddam is setting up much the same as the situation with hitler did. Europe tried to appease that madman, while he took over country after country while committing horrendeous acts of barbarism on the Jews and his own people.
My step-dad Frank Arrigo was a member of the Rock Force who re-took Corregidor. He and another man raised the US Flag there. Battalion Flag
My husband's Uncle Ralph was a member of Merrill's Marauders. Merrill's Marauders
I've a 20 year old who could be drafted if we reach that point. I don't want my son to go to war no more than any other mother does. BUT FREEDOM ISN'T FREE. It has to be defended. Or we will be setting ourselves up to be in the same position as Israel.
