At the national gathering of SMOD (Single Mothers On Disabilty) today in the Cherry Blossom Motel in South-East DC Senator Hillary spoke to our national response to the incident in Indiania where a huge SUV driving woman viciously beat a tiny, defenseless and precocious fourth year old child to whom she was maternally related."Our children must be protected. They are our bridge to the future." said the vivacious and intelligent NY Senator. "We can not afford to allow any adult to punch a four-year child in the head and get away with it. We need to turn aside the extreme right-wing's concerns over privacy and ignore those religious fanatics who claim that the parent-child bond is sacred -- as this case clearly shows, raising young children safetly is something beyond the reach of many Americans. Our children are crying out in pain and agony for the help of our federal government. And we need to do something. We can't allow even one more child to suffer in this manner.
"That's why today, I, together with many leaders from both sides of the aisle in the Senate, am proposing the Millenium Omnibus American Child Security And Welfare Act.
"In this needed piece of legistlation we have mandated that all places where children may be so endangered be fitted with 24/7 security cameras, manned by specially trained caring women from the Reno and Shalala Child Protection Agency.
"This bill contains many needed and necessary provisions to ensure the saftey of the children in this new Millenium."
