Sadly, you are probably correct. Shortly before the 2000 elections, Ron Untz, I believe it was, wrote a compelling article that stated whenever Republicans stay true to strong and uncompromising conservative positions, they invaribly win elections both in California and nationally. With all the money at their disposal, you would think the Republican leadership would validate and promulgate this position. Howeever, time and again, middle of the road republicans win the primary than get slaughtered at the poles because they betray conservative convictions and, thus, their conservative base. Why vote for a Democrat wanna be when you can have the real thing?

Simon's avoidance of, and thus refusal to answer, the question posed by Shawn Hannity concerning this subject shows he doesn't understand what real America wants and is just another Democrat-light.

Tucson, your own question provides your answer. The Republican powers-that-be are scared to death of losing business support. That's where their money comes from, and the quid pro quo for that money is ignoring illegal labor. The Democrats see mass immigration as a source of new Democratic voters, and the Republicans see it as a source of cheap labor, keeping wages low. Even Greenspan has touted immigration as a means of fighting inflation.

Polls indicate that 60-70% of Americans want less immigration. They are being squeezed out of the polity by money greed (R) and political greed (D). The real results are reflected by the fact that over 50% of eligible voters, on average, do not even bother to vote anymore. They have no reason and no cause to vote for any of the major parties.

I would like to see an analysis of the demographics of the non-voter, or apathetic, population. I would be willing to wager that they are the ones who have been squeezed out of the middle class by wage collapse. They won't validate a system that is screwing them.
