One would presume that “the latter” according to Michael Kelly are the Republicans

No, "the former" are the Republicans - that's why Kelly follows with the parenthetical comment

(and, to emphasize, these include many of the left and of the Democratic Party)

He wants to be sure you recognize that the split between "the former" and "the latter" is not strictly according to traditional party lines.

If you agree with me you might want to re-interpret the article.

I admit that I did read that wrong, but that points out that my argument with the statement is correct. It is the Republicans who recognize the world has changed. The Democrats are still putting party before country.

Did you see the survey of college propfessors the other day? Of those who would give their party affiliation, school after school showed an almost solid Democrat line-up. These are the ones who teach (indoctrinate) our children.

It's the unions. Teachers sacrifice their objectivity to the worship of the unions. I'm not sure what to do about that. It comes with a socialist-based system. More privatization or a market-based system may cut down on the propaganda.

I know what it's like. I went to a small Christian school in the 60's and listened to the most socialistic, atheistic bunk for 2 years.

At a "Christian" college. LOL That's what liberals do. Instead of presenting their ideas to be compared to conservative ideas, they infiltrate into conservative institutions to drown out opposing viewpoints. I guess they know their ideas won't stand up in the marketplace of ideas.

Then my father pulled me out of it because he wasn't going to pay private school tuition to have me indoctrinated. I didn't want to leave because I had friends, and tried to convince my dad that I wasn't being influenced. I was to a certain degree though... the propaganda was just too pervasive.

8 hours of lies a day may be hard to overcome. I never was much of a conservative until I went to college. Like yours they were lying their butts off pushing the socialist cause. For the first year they had me fooled, it seemed like they knew what they were talking about. I'm an information geek, I know a little about a lot of things (jack of all trades, master of none...LOL) and so their teachings would cause me to look into the subjects outside of their classrooms. I started noticing little discrepencies here and there and thought "if they're wrong about this, what else are they wrong about?". I started noticing that what they were teaching was propaganda. The rest is history. :^)

IMO, most Republicans fall into two groups: One group is enamored with the liberal media, the other is intimidated by them.

Those enamored -- McCain for example -- act so they will receive praise from the media.

Those intimdated -- IMO, Lott fits this category -- avoid advancing a true conservative agenda because they're afraid of media criticism.

The last time the US elected a president the liberal media despised -- the Nixon landslide on '72 when he carried every state except Massachusetts and won over 60% of the popular vote -- journalists were shocked and outraged that the lowly American serfs would dare reject their anointed savior, George McGovern.

As a result, the press was determined to bring down Nixon and his presidency, and they did.

To a lesser extent history repeated itself with the Reagan landslide of '84 -- only Minnesota went to Mondale -- when the pouting media liberals wanted to make Reagan pay because he symbolized America's rejection of their left-wing agenda.

As much as they tried, they still failed, and the American people ultimately embraced the heroic president who won the Cold War.

Truthfully, to the leftists in the media the election is never really over if a Republican wins. It's only the beginning of a protracted propaganda war, as they try to set the stage for their designated liberal to win the next time around.

IMHO of course.

If conservatives were truly in the drivers seat then why
do republicans act like a (battered spouse) around election time?
Has everyone forgotten the election map of 2000?

The great task for the principled conservative in our time is to convert the "absorb the evil slowly" conservative to our own kind. It will not be easy. We have dwindled to a remnant. But there is no other course with long-range potential.

It isn't as hard as you make it out to be. Just have to learn how to shift gears is all.

I don't want to hijack the thread, so this will probably be its own thread. Just thought I'd chime in here on your assertion(s).
