Over a year and a half into the Bush II administration, W magazine has blown the lid off the deep secret about the social whir at the White House under President George W. Bush there isn't a whir.
In its October issue, the New York-based fashion and style periodical features a story called "The Big Chill," about the lack of social buzz in Washington. Of course, most anybody in Dallas, Austin or Midland could have told them this before George W. ever put his hand on the Bible. If you expected George W. Bush the party animal to show up in Washington, you're 20 years too late.
Before the inauguration, media outlets from D.C. phoned me frantically wanting to know what the Bush social scene would look like. Like a mantra, I would repeat to each one, "He doesn't dance, he doesn't drink, and he goes to bed early." That is all ye know on Earth and all ye need to know.
"You hear a lot of people complaining, especially among Bush's biggest supporters," one Republican stalwart tells W of the lack of social life around the Bush White House. "This crowd is just very insulated. They were isolated in Texas, and they still are. It's a very tight clan, much tighter than their parents'. They had their wagons circled before they ever left Austin."
People, please ... you're reading too much into this. Let's go back a step: "He doesn't dance, he doesn't drink, and he goes to bed early." When he was governor, you had to catch him before dinner and not wait until after or he'd be out the door faster than Superman ducking a pass from Lois Lane. Wherever he was, the governor made a point to leave early to fly back to Austin so he could say good night to his daughters, Jenna and Barbara.
Fort Worth-reared Clay Johnson, Bush's pal from Andover and Yale and former COO of the Dallas Museum of Art, is on the short list with his wife, Ann, for private dinners in the family quarters. He is now White House personnel director, and she is director of the State Department's Art in Embassies program. Ann reports that Bush usually makes invites for these get-togethers at the last minute. "He calls direct, without a switchboard operator," Ann tells W.
Perhaps when he's whipped Osama and Saddam he'll be able to worry about the more important things in life, like making cocktail chat on the Beltway social circuit.
Sounds like a perfect description of Clowntoon. I expect him to have some kind of nervous breakdown when he can't find people to affirm his "relevance" any more.
FR is going to need a few new servers if and when that happens.
Nasty?? Delusional???
I'm not sure if you're talking about my articles about my son Eric, but outside conversations with my FRiends on a few threads, I don't discuss my family here. If you are offended by my pride in my son who is serving in the Army Reserves (and whom I have been asked to write about, I'm sorry.
But nasty? I don't think so.
I am truly sorry for interfering with your conversation with Miss Marple. I should have known better.
Sounds like you've at least toned it down some. Thank you.
I have never attacked a single person without being first attacked, either personally, or as part of a group.
You have misread what I have said, because you have not known all the facts.
If you did, you would realize that I have been complimented as one who can discuss and disagree without rancor. If you have been annoyed by me, I'm sorry, but I have not changed since I began posting here a year and a half ago.
I respect this President and defend his honor, because he has earned my trust. Period.
Exactly. Like how Miss Marple just got into it a while ago and you decided to jump in? She is a big girl and can handle herself.
I think President Bush has done a wonderful job and is a good man. I also think he is human. The love you show for the President borders along the lines of infatuation from what I've seen. He can do NO wrong. Kind of like the attitude that you present about your husband. Hey, ignorance is bliss. If that's how you want to live, it is honestly your business.
Just stay out of other people's coversations!
I can not, for the life of me, decide if I like you or not! Truly ... 'tis odd. Now. You probably could not care less ... and you shouldn't ... still ... it's rare to find someone who is at once so completely unlikably likable.
I am also wondering if it is even possible to be more off topic than I am being right now. But there you have it.
Other Bushbots entering the fray without knowing the details of what is being discussed. This is also the MO. Before I am accused of bashing Bush, I protested for him in Fl during the election fiasco. I like President Bush, however, I recognize that he a human being like the rest of us.
Now, here is what I think.
Very often, Bush Babes are accused of being sycophants, groupies, and kool-aid drinkers. They are quite defensive after over 2 years of accusations. This is surely understandable.
It seems to me that you have taken your dislike of President Bush's fans and projected it onto ohioWfan.
What you fail to understand is that President Bush connects with so many people because he is NORMAL. Thus, his relationship with his wife reminds people of their own marriages, his relationships with his daughters reminds us of our own children, and his love for the nation is shared by us all.
For 8 long years we endured a President who was the antithesis of everything we believe in. He didn't honor his marriage vows, he loathed the military, he lied, honored crooks, divided the country, and generally did everything he could to destroy this country, including treason.
Now we have President Bush, a good and decent man who loves this nation and his family. Although we may sometimes disagree with him from time to time, we KNOW he loves this nation and is doing his best and behaving with honor.
Because of who he is, many people respond instinctively to his message, and draw connections to their own families and their personal history. This is to be expected when someone is doing such a good job.
Therefore, I question why you think your point is that important. Youdid go out of your way to target me when you had mistaken who you were targetting. Now you are on to someone else. It seems to me you are for some reason desiring to demoralize Bush Babes.
Let's use an analogy: suppose a bunch of male Bush supporters got together and made comments about how the President likes football and baseball the way they did, who liked how Laura looked and thought she was a babe, who high-fived each other whenever President Bush made a macho comment.
Would you then target those men as being silly and personality driven? I don't think so.
Anyway, the best thing is to not make mockery of other people's posts based on YOUR PERSONAL amateur psychology. It hurts people's feelings and is really not helpful.
I'm not sure what you mean by that but I haven't pinged anyone but ohio in #134 and her only ping to me was way back in post #33, before you even started picking on Miss Marple. I have read the article and all the comments on this thread. I don't believe that anyone on this thread has accused you of bashing President Bush. You have however been unjustifiably rude to fellow freepers. You've made one apology. Another is called for.
For reasons which remain a mystery to me ... I have perused your comments both here and on other threads ....
I find I agree with you more times than not ... and when I do not ... with the exception of your extreme sensitivity here ... I find your thinking sound and reasoned.
There is no evidence of an attempt to "gang up" on you ... and in the case of several posters, this type of behavior would be completely out of form anyway ...
But easy to do, you will agree ... by simply *pinging* folks ... which was not done ...
Take your gloves off ... there's no fight here ... though your screen name troubles me a bit .... makes me wonder if you look to mix things up ... even when all the ingredients are not present.
