Johnnie Tremain would be fine for an 11 year-old. My son read it at about that age for our Revolutionary War unit (we lived right outside of Boston at the time, so we could visit some of the historic places we were reading about in the book)

How can so many people feel SO much love for ... a man we've never become personal friends with? A work of grace among us, for sure.

That's a question I've continued to ask for almost 2 years. What is this special gift that George W. Bush has that makes us (and so many others) feel a personal attachment for, and empathy with him?

What is it that makes us love him so deeply, and care what he is doing, or how he is being treated?

I, for one, have never had this experience before.........but I truly feel that it is spiritual at its core. It is his depth of commitment, his strength and his love for others that make you know that if you were his friend, he would never let you down.

It's part of what makes me keep praying for this dear friend and brother daily.

YES! Bess Streeter Aldrich wrote *A Lantern in Her Hand*. Wonderful book! I have a collectors edition...bought recently on Amazon.

Her book *Miss Bishop* was made into a movie. I have that too. :o)

Haven't milked a goat...you got me there. :o) Goats milk is good for babies/children with intolerances to lactose and soy, right?

That's some rich history, El Gato. You should consider writing that down for your children, g-children, etc. Very rich history.

**HSM!!!!!! You're here! Did Grama let you out, or did you call the cops on her again? About Johnnie Tremaine: I have a grandchild who is 11. Would that be the right age for that book? And can I get it anywhere? **

--hands on hips--Grammie doesn't own me! For your information we're in an undisclosed location again. The kids are at Autumn Camp. We're playing checkers and drinking root beer from frosty mugs with Rummy and Cheney. So there.

Johnny Tremain would be a wonderful book for an eleven year old, as long as he/she is a strong reader! It has been suggested by some for junior high due to the vocabulary. You might consider using it as a read aloud book for you and your grandchild! You should be able to purchase it at any major book store...if they don't have it you could order it off of Amazon or even homeschool book sites. Enjoy!!!

Hi, My brother drank it way back then because he had ulcers and his dr. told him to drink that. I do not remember if it helped or not. The goat knew to get upon a stand to be milked. Have no idea why, just the way it was done. LOL.

Yes so pretty. The blacks and the blues also bring out the auburn in her hair. Such a pretty daughter, wife, mom and daughter-in-law not to mention First Lady. :)

Thanks to both of you for the information about Johnny Tremaine. I'm on my way over to Amazon to order it.

Mama, you leave Cheney and Rummy alone, you hear! They have important work to do and you're corrupting them with root beer. SHAME!

He really LOOKS tired in these pictures. And why wouldn't he be a little tense or crabby? I'd sure hate to be in his shoes with all the problems and the criticism he has to put up with. Glad he's there instead of you know who.

NO WAY!!!!!!! I cannot believe I remembered that as the last time I even saw that book was in 1985 in 5th grade. What was the heroine's name again?? When she had to sell her pearls I almost died.

Hi, We had to take MS history and it was very interesting. I even knew all the counties and where they were at one time. More kids should have to take 4 years of history in high school. What part of Texas are you living or from? My sil is from Ft. Worth but now lives in MS.
